Numerical simulation and experimental research on cracking mechanism of twin-roll strip casting

Abstract Based on the three-dimensional field of molten pool and twin-roll strip casting experiments, this work verified cracking mechanism by establishing mathematical model rolling experiments. The results showed that due to instability thermophysical inconsistency kiss curve height, newly solidified will undergo incompatible deformation through rolling. stress concentration appear around large reduction area then form slip bands. When plastic strain exceeds limit metal, oblique cracks in bands periodically or completely penetrate strip. In addition, tensile could also be produced deformation. Therefore, keeping uniformity stability thermal physical is key factor restrain cracks.
